Relation to music

Ideally in the music world, having the likes of musical background or previous musical experience will help you get over the easy parts in the early stages. For someone like me who has neither and is starting from the bottom, I must take any positives from my other previous jobs and use some skills and knowledge I gained from them. In previous work roles my main job was to sell and promote, things such as mobile phone contracts and devices. This of course having no relevancy to music at all, did actually come with a benefit. The company I worked for only dealt business to business dealings which meant I was dealing with business people on the daily. Looking back at it, this job gave me skills in dealing with people in much higher role than me and allowed me to get my foot in the door of places with a backbone. Partially this came from it being my job so I had no choice but also because the people weren’t always that pleasant and may have expressed there non interest in taking my call in ways ill not mention here. In fairness to them they were busy people and probably didn’t have time for a sales call but someone has to do it.
Part of the job is making 100 calls to be told no 99 times, but all you need is that 1. That one opportunity to grasp that can determine if you’ve had a good day or bad day for the team. This is how a lot of career paths work especially big risk little reward paths like the one I have chosen. Making it in the music industry and getting the recognition is more difficult than it might seem and its even harder to stay there once you’ve made it. Getting just that one opportunity just like in telesales can make all the difference. So whilst my previous jobs didn’t equip me with music terms or help me learn the software, it did give me skills that will be useful if I am to make it as far as I believe I can.
